Kelowna wins a spot on Monopoly board

Landing on Kelowna could cost you $1.6 million.
That's the value of the square on the new Canadian edition of the classic board game Monopoly which will be filled by Kelowna.
After an online voting period, which saw more than one million votes cast over a six week period, the winning cities have been announced.
Kelowna will occupy one of the three magenta squares, along with St. John's and North Bay, Ontario.
On a traditional Monopoly board, Kelowna will occupy the square normally held by Virginia Avenue.
Kelowna's space will feature a picture of the Sails.
The all important Boardwalk will be filled by Chatham-Kent, Ontario and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que. will take over Park Place.
Media relations for Tourism Kelowna, Catherine Frechette, says being a part of the game is a great thing for Kelowna.
“It will really keep us on people's minds. They will literally be vying for a piece of very valuable property,” says Frechette.
She says having the city represented on such an iconic game will create some intrigue.
“For people who maybe aren't familiar with Kelowna, seeing our (name) while playing may make them curious about what kind of city we are. It really helps bring us into everyday family entertainment.”
As for the rest of the board, the green squares will be filled by Calgary, Edmonton and Sarnia, Ontario.
Windsor, Quebec City and Trois-Rivières, Que. will be the yellow squares. The red squares will be taken up by Medicine Hat, Gatineau, Que. and Shawinigan, Que.
Kawartha Lakes, Ont., Chilliwack and Montreal will be represented on the orange squares and Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver will fill the light blue spaces.
Last but not least, the brown squares will be filled by Beauceville, Que. and Banff, AB.
